Welcome to the Fine Arts Department
"Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy." — Psalm 33:3
Welcome to the Fine Arts Department at Aurora Christian School!
As Fine Arts Department Chair, it is my privilege to invite you to learn more about a program that seeks to develop both artistic excellence and Christian character. We believe that God is the Creator of all beauty, and that the arts provide a unique opportunity for students to reflect His creativity, develop their gifts, and use their talents for His glory.
The Fine Arts Department at Aurora Christian School offers students opportunities to grow artistically from preschool through their senior year of high school. Music instruction begins with general music classes for our preschool through fifth-grade students, laying a strong foundation in musical understanding, appreciation, and creativity. Students may begin band in fourth grade, and all sixth-grade students participate in band and/or choir as well as art classes, ensuring that every student experiences the value of artistic expression.
As students progress through middle school, they may continue their involvement in band and choir while exploring both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art courses. At the high school level, students have access to a wide variety of electives, including ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, glass sculpture, pre-film animation, and additional visual arts offerings. Advanced art students may enroll in Studio Art, while advanced band students have the opportunity to earn Honors Credit through Band.
Our students consistently demonstrate excellence both in and out of the classroom. Visual art students have earned recognition and awards at the local, state, and national levels. Band students have represented Aurora Christian School through participation in Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) District 9 Festivals. These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our students, the expertise of our faculty, and the support of our families.
The performing arts are also an important part of student life at Aurora Christian. Students in grades 6–12 may participate in our theater program, which culminates each spring in a full-scale musical production. These experiences help students develop confidence, teamwork, leadership, communication skills, and a commitment to excellence.
The value of arts education continues to be affirmed by current research. In a 2025 report, the National Endowment for the Arts found that participation in the arts is positively associated with academic achievement, social-emotional growth, high school graduation, and future success beyond high school. Researchers noted that fine arts coursework was linked to higher academic performance across core subject areas and increased rates of high school completion.
At Aurora Christian School, we view the arts as more than extracurricular activities. They are an essential part of a Christ-centered education that encourages students to pursue excellence, develop discipline, cultivate creativity, and use their God-given gifts to serve others.
Thank you for your interest in the Fine Arts Department. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with families as we help students discover, develop, and share the talents God has entrusted to them.
In Christ,
Anne L. Hauser
